CONFINED SPACE ENTRY - INCLUDING ESCAPE BREATHING APPARATUS

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The course is designed to give delegates an understanding of the legal requirements surrounding confined space operations. This will include recognising the types of confined spaces and their associated hazards together with knowledge of the implementation of control measures to eliminate or reduce the risk. The course aims to give an understanding of the appropriate accident and emergency procedures required and helps to identify the wide range of confined space safety equipment available and its uses.  Delegates will also learn about and demonstrate the safe use and maintenance of escape breathing apparatus.

COURSE CONTENT

The course includes lecture, practical exercise and theory assessment and covers the following elements: 

  • Definition and types of confined spaces
  • Legislation
  • Confined space hazards, risk assessment, Permits to work, Safe working procedures hygiene
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Gas detection access equipment
  • Use of escape breathing apparatus
  • Accident and emergency procedures
  • Self rescue
  • Practical exercises
  • Candidate assessment

TARGET AUDIENCE

This in depth, highly practical course, is designed for individuals who enter confined spaces such as manholes, shafts, chambers etc or those who assist with confined space operations.  The programme covers the key safety aspects in detail, including practical manhole exercises. Current legislation, safe systems of work, use of escape breathing apparatus and self rescue are all included in this course.

PRE-COURSE PREPARATION

None required – but as the course involves a practical element, delegates are required to bring the following PPE to the course: Safety Helmet, Safety Boots, Gloves and Overalls.

CERTIFICATION

Delegates who successfully complete the course, practical exercise and theory assessment will be issued a certificate valid for a period of 3 years.
