AIMS & OBJECTIVES

This course is designed for Petrol Station Site Operators to receive general health and safety awareness and understand the specific hazards associated with working in the petrol-retailing environment.  It also gives a more in depth understanding of contractor hazards and how to documentation should be reviewed by both parties prior to work commencing.

COURSE CONTENT

Introduction to Health & Safety Law - UK legal system - duty of care and negligence, Health and Safety at Work Act and Management Regulations - employers and employees duties, risk assessment, health and safety enforcement and environmental protection.

Workplace Safety - Access/Egress, good housekeeping, emergency procedures, workplace safety, PUWER and safety signs.

Fire Precautions & Procedures - Fire triangle, classes of fire extinguishing fires, fire prevention, fire precautions (workplace) regulations, fire drills.

Accidents & First Aid - Definition of accidents, prevention, reporting (including RIDDOR), responsibilities and first aid regulations.

Hazardous Substances - Hazard signs, data sheets and product labels routes of entry, COSHH regulations- legal duties and assessments, PPE

Manual Handling - Statistics, causes of injury, manual handling operations regulations and assessments.

Hazards & Control Measures on a Petrol Filling Station - Types of hazards, hazardous areas and zones, safe working practices, and contractor work control measures and documentation, including an understanding of safety method statements, clearance certificates and the operators role, under the approved code of practice for work on filling stations.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Petrol station operators and managers.

PRE-COURSE PREPARATION

None required.

CERTIFICATION

Successful delegates will receive a certificate issued by the Safety Passport Alliance that will be valid for a three year period.
