AIMS & OBJECTIVES
The building maintenance passport training takes one day however, trainees must first undergo the core training day - a one-day session that ensures delegates grasp the basics of general good practice in health, safety and the environment. Acknowledged by the Health and Safety Executive, the programme drives good practice through the contractor supply chain, increasing safety awareness and contributing to higher standards of safety performance. The passport is also fully supported by the training division of UCATT (Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians), Britain's only specialist construction worker's union.
COURSE CONTENT
Core Day
- Organising for safety - including responsibilities, duties, and risk assessment
- Workplace safety - including workplace safety requirements, behavioural safety, safety signs, working at height, display screen equipment
- Plant & Machinery - including work equipment, electricity and noise
- Health - including hazardous substances, COSHH, manual handling and stress
- Procedures - including safe systems of work, emergency procedures, fire, accident reporting and first aid requirements
- The environment - including pollution & waste, employers and employees responsibilities
Building Maintenance Sector Day - comprises of 5 modules:
- Duty of care - safety responsibilities of the employee, employer & others
- Power Tools - understanding the risks associated with power tools and how these can be minimized
- Occupational Health - providing an awareness of the causes & effects of Hand/Arm Vibration Syndrome, how they can be encountered at work, and how they can be avoided
- Asbestos Awareness - providing an understanding of all forms of asbestos encountered in the Building Maintenance Industry
- Access and Egress - discussing the hazards associated with all forms of access and egress
TARGET AUDIENCE
The course is aimed at building contractors who undertake working in the public domain (including council houses, hospitals and offices).
PRE-COURSE PREPARATION
None required.
CERTIFICATION
Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a SPA Safety Passport which is valid for three years.
